Eugene R. Koziatek, 86, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2016.
He was born in Michigan City, Indiana, August 23, 1930, son of the late Andrew and Lottie (Kazmucha) Koziatek. Also preceding him in death was his wife Norma (Brandt) Koziatek, in 2002; a son, Wayne Koziatek, and sisters, Dorothy Schultz and Gertrude Keller.
A U.S. Army veteran, Gene was a member of Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post 213, VFW Post #2939, Knights of Columbus #1172, and St. Augustine Catholic Church. He retired as a Major at Branchville Correctional Facility. Gene enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and riding 4-wheelers.
He is survived by his sons; David Koziatek (Kathy Staninger), LaPorte, IN, Karl Koziatek (Linda), Magnet, IN; daughter, Lynn Koziatek (Kim Matthews), St. Martinville, LA; daughter-in-law, Charlene Koziatek, Chesterton, IN; sisters, Lorraine Moenkhaus, LaPorte, IN and Arleen Fowler, Houston, TX; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 6, 2016, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery, where there will be military graveside rites conducted. Rev. Brian Esarey will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday and from 8:30 until 9:15 AM Thursday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel.
