Elvin "Lee" Adkison, 72, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loved ones after a long and well fought battle. He was born February 20, 1945, in Evansville.

He was a member of Fairlawn United Methodist Church and served in the United States Air Force as a medic. Throughout the years, he was a member of Abate, Rogers Rangers, and Pair-a-dice Cruisers. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Donna; daughters, Danielle (Kent) Wilhite, Adrienne (Eric) Tanner, and Briana Adkison; grandsons, Declan, Luke, and Conor; brother, Doug (Pam) Adkson; and other family members, Sherry Adkison, Jeb Anfield, and Christian Daniel.

The family would like to give a special thank you to their dear Dr. Vivian Cook, who they could not have gotten through this journey without, to the OHA staff, and to Chemo Buddies for their care.

Lee was a long time friend. We camped in beautiful weather, rainy, sub zero in 1750's style clothing and gear. We traveled by river in all kinds of weather, I remember once, water white capping and we had to get to the other side to land. Although we were all wearing heavy period clothing, Lee couldn't swim. He was a very intelligent man. He built cars and cycles from scratch, painted cars, made some very nice metal sculptures. built guns, made knives. Quill work, bead work, leather work. Built furniture for local business, railing. Really anything. He was an excellent blacksmith and welder. We had lots of good times. He will be missed.

There are few in this modern world that could truly be called a "Renaissance Man", but I believe Lee personified that ideal. An artist, blacksmith, mechanic, and historian, he possessed tremendous intellect and the heart of a lion! My thoughts and prayers are with Lee's lovely family - I know he loved you all beyond measure and can only imagine how much you will miss him!
So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.

Lee was a good Christian father and husband who battled his last years as a true warrior. God Blessed him with being able to see his grandson come into the world and one of his dtrs being married. He is now up in Heaven meeting all his loved ones who went on before. We'll miss him but the good memories will live on forever.
