Gron, Ilga Rita
Ilga was born on February 9, 1935, and left us to start her new job as a guardian angel on April 21, 2015. She was born in Riga, Latvia; however, when the threat of Soviet occupation became a reality, Ilga´s family fled their homeland in 1944. After spending five years in displaced persons camps in Germany, Ilga's family boarded the General W.M. Black in 1949 and immigrated to Canada. Ilga spent the next 25 years in Ontario, during which time she married and gave birth to her two daughters. In 1974, she and her young family moved to Tsawwassen, BC. She became an active member of the Vancouver Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she took on numerous volunteer roles over the next 30 years. In 2009, Ilga relocated to Duncan, BC. In her last year, she fought a brave battle against lymphoma, until God decided it was time for her to relocate to her permanent home in heaven. Ilga leaves behind her daughters Linda Anderson and Laura (Kevin) Westwick, her granddaughter Nina, and her kitty cat Gracey. She will also be sadly missed by her first cousins Inta Grintals, Bruno Krygier and Sandra Loomis. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lauren Jackson, Dr. Willie Pewarchuk and the staff of Cowichan District Hospital for their care and support over the past year. Ilga will be laid to rest alongside her parents, Bruno and Zelma Kleinbergs, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Burnaby, BC. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Forest Lawn Chapel, with a light reception to follow in the Reception Lounge.
