John Harold Savage

SAVAGE - John Harold July 27, 1937 - December 22, 2013 John passed away on December 22, 2013 in the arms of his wife Judith after a long battle with COPD. He was born in Toronto,Ontario July 27, 1937 to Harold and Dorothy Savage. He is survived by his sister Patricia, his children Scott, Daniel, Barbara, and Todd, by his step-daughter Zeta, his nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. John graduated with honors from the University of Western Ontario School of Business in 1961. He went on to work for General Motors for a few years, left and started his own computer company. developing an accounting system for the apparel manufacturing industry. John sold his company and went into teaching. He taught high school mathematics in Ontario until his retirement in 2002. One of John's passions was to ride his motorcycle-cycle. He crossed Canada and the United States many times. Upon his retirement from teaching John road his motorcycle back to Vancouver Island. With is bride to be Judith on the back, he rode his bike down the hill into the town of Lake Cowichan. John fell in love with the little town on first site and knew that this was where he wanted to spend the rest of his life. John's friends, neighbours and family played a great part in the last years of his life. It was because of their kindness John had a purpose to live each day. John lived a full and happy life. He worked at what he loved and was the first to speak up when he saw injustice. As per John's request he will be cremated. A private celebration of his life will be held in this spring with this family and friends. His ashes will be spread on the two most important lakes in his life, Lake Simcoe in Ontario and Lake Cowichan here on the island. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Cowichan Hospital for giving John quality of life. Thank you to Duncan Hospice for all the kindness they gave to John and his wife Judith during the last days of his life.
