Sidney was born in East London, one of twelve children. Sid is survived by his loving wife, Gladys, of 68 years, along with other family in Canada and Europe.

Sid enlisted with the British Merchant Navy in 1941 and served to to the end of WWII in 1945. Sid was proud of his service, and the role of the British Merchant Navy in the war effort.
After WWII Sid and Gladys immigrated to Canada and embarked on an entrepreneurial career, including construction of apartment buildings in Victoria, BC. Sid was the proud owner operator of the Sharman Mobile Home Park in Nanaimo since 1975.
Sid was a humble man, with a strong work ethic. Sid was a generous philanthropist to many charities on Vancouver Island; his generosity was recognized by Queen Elizabeth II in 2013 with the award to Sid of one of her Diamond Jubilee Medals.
