Luenser, Ruth Ida (Peterson) - Crestview
Ruth Ida Petersen Luenser, of Crestview, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016. She was 85. Ruth was born July 1, 1930 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Maximilian and Edith (Raasch) Petersen. Ruth spent the first years of her life living in Milwaukee. She attended Lutheran High School, where she met her lifelong friend and loving husband, Thomas F. (Tom) Luenser. They married in 1952, and soon thereafter, Ruth patiently waited while Tom served in Korea. Tom was a chemical engineer in the paper industry in Wisconsin, when his company transferred him and many of his co-workers to a paper mill in Butler, Alabama in 1963. Ruth and Tom moved with their four children to Alabama, in the Deep South, a place in turmoil, at the height of the Civil Rights movement. Nonetheless, Ruth made a home for her family there, where she and Tom raised their five adoring children. She found peace and contentment there, made many lifelong friends and helped establish the first Lutheran church in town. Her beloved mother, Edith, "Grandma Peter" Petersen and Tom's parents, Albert and Lydia Luenser, soon joined the family in Butler from Wisconsin, living many joyful years with Ruth, Tom and their grandchildren. Ruth was a woman of great personal and religious faith and dedication. Everywhere she lived - Wisconsin, Alabama, Georgia, Washington, Texas and Florida - she participated in church life. She made her church the center of her life, and this served her well through the trials and tribulations of her life, as well as during the many good times she shared with friends and family. As Ruth's children became adults and moved to various parts of the country, Ruth stayed close by Tom's side through various transfers, moving to Atlanta, and Moses Lake, Washington. It was there that she lost her soulmate, Tom, in April of 1994, at the early age of 63. She started the next phase of life in May of 1994 in Houston, Texas, and made her final home in Crestview, Florida, where she lived close to two of her children, Cathy and Tim, and many of her grandchildren. She left a legacy of faith, kindness, friendship and creativity in every place she went, and is remembered with great love and admiration by all the friends she made along her life's journey. Ruth loved to read, sing in the choir, bake, sew, do art projects with her grandchildren, watch and attend sporting events (an avid 'Bama, Saints, Braves and Spurs fan), and travel and spend time with her children and grandchildren. She is dearly missed by her family and many friends across the country. Ruth's survivors are her five children, Mary Luenser Terry and spouse Timothy Terry of San Antonio, Karen Luenser Ruppert and spouse Todd Ruppert of Owings Mills, Md., Susan Luenser Zeidner and spouse Robert Zeidner of Los Angeles, Calif., Timothy Todd Luenser and fiancée, Terra Tyler of Pensacola, and Cathy Luenser Dillon and spouse Bradley Dillon of Crestview; 10 grandchildren, Merideth Terry Waltman of Dallas, Allyson Luenser La Victoire of Crestview, Kierstin Ruppert of New York, N.Y., Ashlee Luenser Van Dyke of Crestview, Kali Ruppert of Owings Mills, Md., Haylee Luenser Cooper of Virginia Beach, Va., Simon Zeidner of Los Angeles, CA, Taylor Dillon of Crestview, Thomas Dillon of Crestview and Kendall Zeidner of Los Angeles; five great-grandchildren, Kelee Van Dyke of Crestview, Jameson La Victoire of Crestview, Graham Waltman of Dallas, Harper La Victoire of Crestview and Ethan Van Dyke of Crestview. Her husband, Thomas F. Luenser; mother, Edith Raasch Petersen; father, Maximillian Petersen; mother-in-law, Lydia Perske Luenser; father-in-law, Albert Luenser; maternal grandmother, Matilda Selcho Raasch; maternal grandfather, Henry Raasch, maternal step-grandmother, Ida Raasch preceded her in death. Friends may attend a dinner and open house to greet family members from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 19 at the Water Valley Lodge near Gilbertown, Ala. A memorial service officiated by Rev. Ray Lane is 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 20 at Bumpers-Brown Funeral Home, 302 Vanity Fair Ave., Butler, Ala. Following the service there will be the laying of ashes at the local cemetery with a reception following at Choctaw General Hospital in Butler. All friends and family may attend. Lois Evelyn Jones Styche, 82, of Crestview, was received into the loving arms of Jesus on April 25, 2016. She was the wife of David J Styche. They shared 48 years together. Born in Bluff City, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Karl W. Jones and Norma J. Stidham Jones. Lois was a devoted mother and loving homemaker. She also worked in a variety of jobs throughout her life, excelling in whatever she put her mind to. Lois loved to read and became a familiar face at the local library.
