John Edward Coleman Jr., 64, of Laurel Hill, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014. He was born Sept. 14, 1949 in Jacksonville. He moved to Northwest Florida in 1975. John - who owned and operated Coleman's Aviaries since 1977 - was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne. An avid musician and singer, he was a member of The 327th Infantry Regimental Association, a pilot, an expert at salsa dancing and loved to travel. Two sons, John Jason Coleman and Jordan David Coleman, and his father, Edward Coleman, preceded him in death. Survivors are his mother, Betty Jo Tilley; one brother, Stephen Travis Coleman; one sister, Shirley Coleman Rayburn; two grandchildren, John Nathan Coleman and Starr Renee Coleman; one great-grandchild, Bentley McGuire; aunt, Bobbie Mickler; nephew and nieces, Erik Rayburn, Nicole Rayburn and Chelsie Coleman; four step-siblings; and many cousins. Brackney Funeral Service, Crestview, provided arrangements. A celebration of life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 from the chapel of Brackney Funeral Service. Mike Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends 3 p.m. Saturday at Brackney Funeral Service. Lillie M. Conyers, 69, of Crestview, died on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014. She was born Oct. 8, 1944 to Gladys P. Thomas Brooks and the late George L. Brooks Sr. in Meridian, Miss. She was the oldest of two children. Lillie was a member of Mt. Zion AME Church, where she served in many capacities during more than 50 years of membership. The wife of 47 years to the late James N. Conyers, they parented three children, Carolyn Renee, Felecia Y., and James III. Lillie was educated in the public school system in Meridian Mississippi, and served in the U.S. Army. She graduated from Okaloosa-Walton College with an A.A. in accounting and earned a B.A. in accounting from University of West Florida. Lillie was a member of the Velma K. Conyers Order of the Eastern Star and E.L Seawright Court 90 Heroines of Jericho. In 2006, she was appointed to the Crestview City Council, where she also served as the president. She was key in planning and implementing the FAMU Medical School-Crestview campus. She was a Life Member of the NAACP. Sister Conyers was preceded in death by her father, George L. Brooks Sr.; and husband, James N. Conyers. She leaves to celebrate her life, her mother, Gladys P. Brooks; one brother, George L. Brooks, Jr.; two daughters, Carolyn Renee Evans of Bennettsville, S.C., and Felecia Y. Gambrel, of Tallahassee; one son, James N. (Donna) Conyers III, of Tallahassee; mother-in-law, Velma K. Conyers; sister-in-law, Mary (Malcolm) Haynes of Crestview; one brother-in-law, Freddie Conyers of Miami; three special lifelong friends, Dorise Griffin of Lynn Haven, Joyce Johnson of Sacramento, Calif., and George Stakley, of Crestview. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and relatives. Visitation was at McKinnie Funeral Home on Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services are at Mt. Zion AME Church, 550 McDonald St., Crestview on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. McKinnie Funeral Home (Crestview) was entrusted with final arrangements.
