Jim served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years before retiring. He then worked at several schools in the county in the special-education departments. Jim worked at Meigs Middle School, Richburg School and the Crestview Charter School.
He loved his model airplanes, loved to travel to historical places, and loved to read and watch old movies. Most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren and his dogs. His mother, Marie Ratliff, preceded Jim in death.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Robin Ratliff of Crestview, children: Arika Aduddell of Crestview and Adam Aduddell of New Jersey; a brother, Mike Ratliff, and sister Karen Ratliff, both of South Carolina; and his mother-in-law, Mary Bell. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jacob, Kaeleb and Jonah Archer, and a nephew, Nathan Bell, and nieces Amber and Ellen Bell.
A memorial service to honor Jim was on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016, at 5 p.m. at the Chapel of Whitehurst-Powell Funeral with Rev. Donnie Cadenhead officiating. Military honors followed. A time of visitation with the family began at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to United Cerebral Palsy, www.ucp.org or St. Jude's Children Hospital.
