Sample, Edwin H. Edwin H. Sample, age 88, resident of Washington, NC passed away on August 20, 2015 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington NC. He was a resident of Greenfield Hill in Fairfield, CT from 1968-1978. Edwin (Ed) was born in Longmeadow, MA to William W. and Eleanor M. Sample. The youngest of three children, he was a graduate of the Northfield Mount Hermon School, Mount Hermon, MA. He graduated in 1949 with an AB Degree from Bowdoin College, having interrupted his studies to serve with the US Army Finance Department in Germany from 1947-1948. His professional sales and marketing career began at Sample-Durick Co. in Chicopee MA. He also worked with Champion Packaging, Boise Cascade and Mail Well Envelopes. Ed had a love of choral music which spanned his lifetime and included performing with the Bowdoin College Meddibempsters (Brunswick, ME), Fairfield (CT) County Chorale, the Montgomery County (MD) Masterworks Chorus, the Paul Hill Chorale (Washington, DC), Greenville (NC) Choral Society and finally the Beaufort County Choral Society (NC). Ed enjoyed sailing on the Pamlico Sound, Long Island Sound and the waters around Cape Cod, MA. He was a loving grandfather, an accomplished wood worker, gardener, bird watcher and enjoyed desserts – especially ice cream. Upon his "retirement" to Washington NC, in 1988, Ed began a second career in Real Estate. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Washington, NC, where he was a member of the choir and served as an Elder and Deacon. He was also a member of the Washington Down East Seniors (Past Treasurer), Kiwanis Club Golden K and the Washington Yacht and Country Club. Ed is survived by his loving wife Gaye Sample; children: Deborah H. Kim (Robert Burr)- Salt Lake City, UT; Jeffrey W. Sample- Montgomery Village, MD; Scott W. Sample (Linda) – Raymond, NH; step children Paul R. Gaumnitz (Martha)- Richland, WA; Sheila G. Cloniger-Rafolski (Michael)- Jessup, GA; grandchildren Alexander H. Kim, Abigail H. Kim, Anne Elizabeth H. Kim, Megan H. Sample; step-grandchildren Richard Douglas Gaumnitz, Kyle W. Gaumnitz, Kristina R. Gaumnitz, and Bridgette M. Cloniger. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Catherine S. Cramer and brother William. C Sample. The family will receive friends at the Hillside Funeral Home, 4500 Highway 264 E., Washington, NC from 7:00-8:30 pm, Friday, August 28, 2015. A graveside service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery at 11:00 am, Saturday August 29, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 211 W. 2nd Street, Washington, NC 27889.

Sampley, Al - Newtown  
Sampley, Al F.. Al Francis Sampley, 92 of Newtown passed away August 27, 2015. He was born February 6, 1923 in Somerville, MA the son of Harry G. Sampley and Marjorie (Partridge) Sampley. A decorated war hero and well respected antique dealer for over 50 years, Al co-owned Almar Antiques of Wells, Maine with his devoted wife, Mary Anne. He was an aviator, serving in the U.S. Army during WWII and as the captain of the Civil Air Patrol based in Monroe, CT. Al was a member of VFW Post 308 in Newtown. An avid sportsman, he had a penchant for breaking records, he competed in midget car racing and bowling a perfect game. He loved golf, fishing, hunting, boating & skiing. He was an extraordinary photographer and artist. His dry humor was remarkable! He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. Al is survived by his loving wife, Mary Anne (Killian) Sampley and his dear friends, the Albanese family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday September 2, 2015 at 11:00am in Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main St., Newtown. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Newtown Village Cemetery. Friends may call at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown Tuesday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Samuelman, Susan - Oxford  
Samuelman, Susan J.. OXFORD, CT: Susan Jean (DiClementi) Samuelman, 56, of Oxford died on August 27, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband David Samuelman , her daughter Sara (Samuelman) Walsh and son in law Brian Walsh of Shelton, her son David Samuelman Jr of Oxford and her parents Dominic and Jean DiClementi of Beacon Falls. She also leaves her sister Sandy (Robert) Hokunson of Seymour; brother Peter (Sandra) DiClementi of Wolcott and sister Donna Tosches of Collierville, TN along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her family, she was loved by her devoted dog, Ace. Susan graduated from Seymour High School and Mattatuck Community College. She worked for many years at Merit Properties and then at CM Property Management as a bookkeeper. She also managed her own bookkeeping business. Susan was also an avid member of the Oxford High School Quarterback Club. Although Susan lived with breast cancer for 15 years, it is not the cancer that people will remember about Susan but the way that she lived her life with courage, determination and strength that defied all odds. Susan was and will always be our hero. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either St. Jude's children's hospital or the ASPCA. Calling Hours are Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Church, 25 Maple Ave., Beacon Falls (DIRECTLY). Saxonmeyer, John - Southport  
Saxonmeyer, John John Saxonmeyer, 86, of Southport, passed away peacefully at home from complications of Parkinson's Disease surrounded by his family on August 27, 2015. John was born October 23, 1928 in Westport and was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Europe in World War II. He was a lifelong area resident. John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn (Danylko) Saxonmeyer, son and daughter-in-law, Ivan and Lisa Saxonmeyer of Newtown; his cherished grandson, Matthew Saxonmeyer of New York City and his nephews, Mark Danylko and William Danylko. John loved music and entertaining family and friends on the piano. There are no calling hours, and private services will be at the convenience of the family. Sippin, Robert V. Robert V. Sippin age 70 passed away Friday August 21st., in Ocala Florida at the Hospice of Marion County, The Legacy House. Robert was born August 18th 1945, a son of the late Maxwell and Molly Sippin. Robert grew up in Monroe CT and lived in the area for most of his adult life. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Jeanne Sippin of Ocala FL.; sons Donald (Heather) Olson of Bethlehem CT., Kevin (Debbie) Olson of Waterbury CT., and Brian Olson and fiance Shane Dunn of Ocala, FL. Also surviving are three Granchildren, Kevin Olson Jr., Jennifer Olson, and Jessica (Reid) Sorrel as well as one Great Grandson, Dexter Sorrel, all of CT. In addition Robert is survived by his brothers Martin (Terry) of Morgantown WV, Randy (Ana) of Miami FL., Richard of New Milford CT, and sister Valarie of Palmer MA. A special aunt Lori and uncle Bernie Sippin of Monroe, CT; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Robert worked for 45 years for Sippin Energy Products until he retired and moved to Ocala Fl. in 2010 with his wife Jeanne. Robert was a kind and gentle soul, who never had a harsh word against anyone. He lived his life simply and enjoyed helping neighbors and friends with home repairs and found great pleasure being helpful to others. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Stollman, Bernice G. - Stratford  
Stollman, Bernice G. Bernice G. Stollman, age 87 of Stratford, passed away on Saturday August 29, 2015 at Bridgeport Hospital. Mrs. Stollman was born in South Norwalk, CT, a daughter of the late Morris and Frances Gellis, and was the proprietor of M and M Travel of Stratford for over 20 years. She was one of the founding members of the Polka Dot Playhouse, and an active member of the Shakespeare Theater Guild. Mrs. Stollman was pre deceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Seymour Stollman, and is survived by her devoted children, Hunter Stollman and his wife Alisa of Newtown, CT, Nikki Stollman and her husband James Injaychock of Stratford, CT, adored granddaughter, Catherine Hunter Jacques and her husband Philip of Avon, CT, and great grandson Calvin Hunter Jacques. Mrs. Stollman was also pre deceased by her brothers, Milton Gellis and Louis Gellis. Private services were held from The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home of Fairfield, with interment following at Loyalty Cemetery. The family would especially like to thank Kyle and Susan for their love and devotion, and the wonderful nurses and staff at Lord Chamberlain for their tender devotion and loving care.
