Angelo Memoli Obituary

MEMOLI Angelo C. Memoli, age 83 of Trumbull, beloved husband to Lucille DeMarco Memoli, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 15, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Bridgeport on May 19, 1926, he was a son of the late Francesco and Belinda Rodia Memoli. He graduated from Harding High School in 1944 and immediately after graduation joined the United States Army. He fought in World War II with the 9th infantry division, Company F and was promoted to Staff Sergeant. While serving his country, he traveled throughout central Europe and the Rhinelands, fighting in six major battles, including the European African Middle Eastern Campaign, and culminating with the famous "Battle of the Bulge" in 1946 which ended World War II. Upon his return home, he attended the University of Bridgeport, where he received both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Business, graduating with honors. He was employed with the Hoffman Fuel Company of Bridgeport, and later with Standard Oil Company of California. Later, Mr. Memoli and his brother, Gene, formed Memoli and Memoli Real Estate. The company is still in existence today. In 1980, Angelo earned the CCIM designation, the highest schooling one can achieve in the commercial real estate field. At that time, he was only one of 32 designees in the State of Connecticut. On November 12, 1949, he married Lucille Ann DeMarco, the daughter of family friends. They were married 60 years at the time of his passing. The couple had five children and resided in Trumbull. Mr. Memoli was actively involved in community service. He was appointed a member of the first Fair Housing Commission and was responsible for many commercial developments and affordable housing in Bridgeport. In Trumbull, he served many years on the Planning and Zoning Committee and was chairman of the WPCA. Mr. Memoli was a lifelong member of St. Theresa Parish in Trumbull. A devout Catholic, he was a trustee of the parish, and served as Chairman of the Finance Commission. He is survived by his wife Lucille; his five children, Paul, David, Mark, Mary and John; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Joshua, AbIgail, Justin and Julia; two brothers, Gene Memoli and his wife, Elizabeth of Bridgeport and Anthony Memoli and his wife, Janet of Stratford; sister-in-law, Lucille Giannini DeMarco; and brother-in-law, Rev. Peter DeMarco; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment with military honors will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum, Bridgeport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph High School Scholarship Fund, 2320 Huntington Turnpike, Trumbull, CT 06611. The last time I saw Uncle Angelo, he stopped me to talk, he always had time to talk with the "kids" of the family and was always genuinely interested. He was always caring, smiling, laughing with his big rosy cheeks! And this is how I will always remember Uncle Angelo and imgagine he is smiling and laughing now in Heaven waiting for all of us!!! After joining the family business 9 years ago, "Uncle Angelo" became more than an uncle to me. He became my teacher, mentor and friend. I feel fortunate to have had him in my life and will use his teachings(along with my cousins, sisters, brother, father and Norma)to carry on the family business the way he wanted it to be done. We will miss you and love you forever!
