Alan Schrank, DDS of Bridgeport, passed away at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved son of the late Rose and Bob Schrank. He is mourned by his devoted wife, Rachel, his loving children Robin Vona, Cindy and Justin Kane, his adored grandchildren, Olivia, Sebastian and Miranda Vona , Eli Kane, and a brother Paul Schrank. Alan was born and raised in Brooklyn. He attended New York City schools and graduated from the New York University
College of Dentistry in 1963. Alan practiced dentistry in Bridgeport for 20 years before being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. He was honored by the Bridgeport Dental Association several times for his devotion to dentistry and to his patients. He was an active member of the Bridgeport Community. Alan was an avid sailor and loved all types of adventure-sailing on his "Abracadabra", sky diving, traveling, ballooning and shooting the rapids were his delights. He retired from the United States Navy as a Lieutenant Commander after more than 20 years of active and reserve duty. He was seen everywhere wearing his Navy cap. Those who knew him marveled at his spirit and courage as he faced the effects of Parkinson's Disease for 28 years. His family is grateful for the support of their family and friends, with special appreciation to Douglas Robinson, his caregiver, to Sandy and Karen who also aided in his care, and Amy Kaplan, a special neighbor who loved him dearly. Services will take place on Sunday March 30, 2014 at 2:00 PM from The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home 88 Beach Road in Fairfield, with interment following at Beth EL Cemetery on Reid Street.
