Alexa, III, Andrew J.
Andrew J. Alexa III (Drew) passed away at home in Colorado Springs, Colorado on July 16, 2013. Born and raised in Fairfield, CT, he graduated from Roger Ludlow High School and the University of Connecticut. Drew was a life-long entrepreneur with a career that demonstrated his varied interests including working as an aerial photographer, an airline and helicopter pilot, the founder of a charter airline and founder and owner of several publishing entities.
Drew served in the Air Force in the late sixties in Wiesbaden Germany where he was an award winning drummer in Special Services. He was an active member of Civil Air Patrol, the Air Force Auxiliary for more than 30 years and held the rank of Colonel. As Director of Advanced Technologies for CAP, he and his team were responsible for the deployment of ARCHER, the country's first fully operational, large-scale hyperspectral imaging system for use in search and rescue, disaster relief and homeland security.
He was passionate about many things including music, flying, traveling, golf and the beloved animals that made up his family over the years.
Drew is preceded in death by his mother Jeanne. He is survived by his wife of 24 years Sandra, his father Andrew Jr., his brother Richard and sister Susan and their children Shannon Alexa, Kimberly Alexa Brown and Richie Alexa, his mother-in-law Janice Humphreys and two uncles, Coleman and Fred Alexa and their families.
His unique gift for friendship, generous spirit and his love of life and family will be greatly missed but leaves us better off for having shared his life.
A memorial mass for Drew will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1830 S. Corona Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80906, on Friday, July 26th at 10:00 AM.
