Mauri, Carol Ann
Carol Ann "Cally" Mauri went peacefully to be with the Lord on March 27, 2014. Born on October 6, 1954 to the late Barry and Marion McMahon Mauri, Carol grew up surrounded by a loving, supportive family with so many very special friends.
She is survived by her two sisters, Patricia Ann Mauri of Bridgeport and Marion Schrade and her husband, Bill of Oxford; her two brothers, Barry Mauri and his wife, Faith and Edward Mauri of Southport as well as several nieces and nephews.
Carol loved her music, her favorite TV shows, remembered everyone's birthday; could sing along with any popular song and loved all holidays especially her birthday! She would tell you which celebrity you looked like and always had a smile for everyone. Swimming was one of Carol's favorite activities and she was so proud of winning gold medals at the Special Olympics
Carol attended Pequot School in Southport as part of a regional pilot program for Down's Syndrome children, then went to Roger Ludlowe High School as the Special Needs programs grew and were integrated within the schools. Carol loved attending school and was involved in many community activities.
Carol also attended various Kennedy Center programs over the years - just recently the wonderful new Faust Hall, a facility dedicated to individuals with Down syndrome and/or other intellectual disabilities who are showing signs of Alzheimer's Disease.
In 1999, Carol attended St. Vincent's Adult Day Programs and in 2000, she moved into Morning Dew, one of St. Vincent's Special Needs wonderful residential group homes in Stratford, where she received the most amazing love and care for the past fourteen years.
The family is so grateful to all of the staff of St. Vincent's Special Needs, especially all of those at Morning Dew group home, Kennedy Center Adult Services/Faust Hall and VITAS Hospice for all the love and care they have shown for Carol and her extended family.
Friends are invited to the Celebration of Carol's life on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield Center. Friends may greet her family from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be private.
