Dwight Fairchild Fanton of Fairfield, Connecticut passed away peacefully on Monday, February 4, 2013, at the age of 97. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 16, 1915, in East Orange, NJ, and raised in New Rochelle, New York, Mr. Fanton was the son of the late Ethel and Willard Fanton of Weston, Connecticut. Mr. Fanton's forebearers settled in Weston, CT in the late 1600's. Mr. Fanton graduated from Yale University in 1937, and received his law degree from Yale in 1940. He served in World War II as a Major in the U.S. Army and was a member of the prosecution team for the military proceedings at Dachau in 1946. Mr. Fanton's distinguished career spanned over 50 years as a valued member and managing partner of the Connecticut law firm Pullman & Comley, LLC. Specializing in labor law, Mr. Fanton represented many clients some of which were: Hubbell Corporation, Bridgeport Hospital, University of Bridgeport, St. Vincent's and Park City Hospitals. Mr. Fanton tried the notable Supreme Court case, Corey v. Avco-Lycoming Division, in 1972.Mr. Fanton's public service included serving as Town Counsel for Weston; Chairman of Trumbull's Planning and Zoning Commission; and serving on Westport's Zoning Board of Appeals. He was also a deputy judge and prosecutor in the Trumbull town court. He was the former Chairman of the Bridgeport Red Cross and United Fund; a former trustee of the Saugatuck Congregational Church in Westport, and a member of the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church in Greenfield Hill, Fairfield. Mr. Fanton is survived by his wife of 53 years, Roma F. Fanton; his son, Jonathan F. Fanton; his daughters, Deborah Joan Fanton and Roma Fanton Hoyt, and five grandchildren. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 16,2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church in Fairfield.
