Shawah, George M.
George Shawah Sr. age 86 years old, born in Bethel, CT. died peacefully on Friday November 8, 2013, with his family by his side at Bridgeport Hospital. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to his adoring wife Mary (Mike) Shawah. He is survived by his four children George Shawah and wife Annette, Susan and husband Tom Kosturko, Nancy and husband Wai Cheung and Robert Shawah and wife Penny. He is also survived by nine beloved grandchildren, Daniel and Christine Shawah, James, Julia and Emily Cheung, Chloe and Grace Shawah, Adam and Jane Kosturko. A graduate of the University of CT, he was an active and highly respected commercial real estate agent broker and appraiser in the greater Bridgeport area for over 50 years as well as President of the CT Association of Realtors in 1971 as owner of Baldwin Pearson and Co., he held the esteemed designation of M.A.I. from the appraisal institute and S.I.O.R. and was highly regarded by his peers in the real estate industry. He served as President of the CT. Chapter of the Institute and Real Estate Agents to 1968. He was also an active member of the Bridgeport Rotary Club for over 40 years. George was a president and pillar of St. Nicholas Antiochian Church. George enjoyed Traveling this country that he loved so much with his wife Mary and their friends. Every Tuesday and Friday nights were dedicated to poker games with his closest friends and family. One of his most pleasant times was with his sons on their traditional fishing trips. His greatest joy, however, was having his family "round about" the table for authentic Arabic meals prepared lovingly by his wife Mary. He was always proud of his Arabic heritage and especially proud to be an American citizen. George served his country briefly in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friend as one of the most honorable and fair gentleman you would ever want to meet. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church in memory of George. Friends are invited to go DIRECTLY to St. Nicholas Antiochian Church on Tuesday at 10am for the "Rite of Burial" officiated by Archpriest Romanos Malouf followed by interment in Mt. Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Calling hours will take place on Monday from 4 to 8pm in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St. Bridgeport with Trisagion services at 7pm in the funeral home.
