Kelly, James J.
James J. Kelly, of Wethersfield, formerly of Cumberland St., Hartford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 7, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Maureen (Ganly) Kelly with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. He was born in New Haven, to the late James and Delia (Devery) Kelly and spent most of his life in Hartford. Jim attended local schools, graduating from Bulkeley High School in 1935. He is a U.S. Navy
veteran of World War II
where he served from 1942-1946, and started his career working on the mail trains with the US Postal Service, progressing to supervisory positions in the greater Hartford area until he took early retirement and next worked with the State of Connecticut Real Estate Commission retiring in 1989. Jim was a lifelong member of the Irish American Home Society where he and Maureen first met. They enjoyed many trips together to Ireland to visit family. He was an avid golfer and played at Goodwin Park from his teenage years into his early-90's. Jim was a devout Roman Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, Hartford and Incarnation Church, Wethersfield. He is survived by his three children: John and his wife Beth of Southport, Anne Zovas and her husband Peter of Cheshire, and Michael of Waltham, MA. Jim was the loving brother of Elizabeth Russell of West Hartford, and was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Horan, Dorothy Kelly, and Florence Partridge. He also leaves his six cherished and devoted grandsons, Justin, Gregory and Evan Zovas, and Christopher, Thomas and Andrew Kelly, many loving nieces and nephews, and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 12:00 Noon at Incarnation Church, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Burial will follow at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd., Bloomfield. Family and friends may call on Sunday, March 10 from 3 to 6pm at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral, 1084 New Britain Ave, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Intensive Education Academy, 840 N.
