John Messina

Messina, John J Sr.
John Joseph Messina, Sr., age 90, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of 66 years of Mary A. Rusinak Messina, passed away peacefully in Bridgeport Hospital on Monday, July 15, 2013. he was born on January 27, 1923 in Bridgeport and was the son of the late Giovanni and Fortuna (Oligino) Messina of Naples, Italy.
He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Thomas; three sisters, Rita, Mary and Rosie; a son, Christopher Messina; and a son-in-law, Curtis Breslin.
Mr. Messina was the devoted father of Laura and Robert Crouch of Florida, John Jr. and Kathy Messina of Shelton, Mark Messina of Orange and Linda Breslin of Branford. He was also the adoring grandfather of Jason and Allison Crouch, Josh, Jamie, Michael, Scott and Matthew Messina and Carly Bresin and great-grandson, Caleb Messina. He is also survived by one brother, Louis Messina; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Al and Eunice Rusinak; and several nieces and nephews.
John served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a production specialist at GE where he retired after 45 years.
Mr. Messina was a member of the Our Lady of Grace Travel Club; the Bridgeport Democratic Town Committee; and the GE Quarter Century Club. He was an avid NY Yankees fan, enjoyed gardening, playing the lottery and going to the casino. Mr. Messina loved cooking, baking and and sharing all of his family recipes. He will be remembered for his delicious pizza, Italian specialities and the holiday celebrations, especially Christmas Eve spent at home with his family.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 pm at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford. Friends are invited to attend A Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 10:30 am DIRECTLY at Our Lady of Grace Church. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
