Lt. Col. Kenneth Sutton Boyer, age 77, longtime resident of Milford and beloved husband to Carolyn Merwin Boyer and devoted father of Kenneth Merwin Boyer, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Milford Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Harrisburg, PA on April 26, 1936, he was the son of the late H. Kenneth and Marguerite Sutton Boyer. He received a BA at the University of Bucknell in 1958 and a Masters in Communication from Fairfield University in 1973. Kenneth served with pride and honor as a Commissioned Officer in the US Army Air Defense Artillery from 1958 to 1972. He was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal for service in the Go Cong Province, Republic of Vietnam, the Meritorious Service Medal from 1971 - 1972 and, while serving as psychological operations advisor US Military Assistance Command in Vietnam, the Bronze Star Medal from 1970 to 1971. Upon his honorable discharge, Kenneth was employed by the CT State Employment Service as a manager in Waterbury, Norwalk and New Haven, retiring in 1996. Kenneth was an avid fan of the UCONN Huskies. He served on the Board of Deacons and as an usher at the First United Congregational Church in Milford. He was also a volunteer with the Milford Literacy Center. His greatest pleasure was sharing quiet moments with his wife, Carolyn, enjoying nature and bird-watching, especially observing their hummingbirds.
In addition to his wife, Carolyn of 52 years, and his son Kenneth, he is survived by a sister-in-law Phyllis Merwin Wilt and her husband Darrel and a loving niece and nephew.
Friends and family may call on Sunday, December 1, 2013 from 2 to 4 pm with a Prayer Service at 4:00 pm at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460. Committal will be private.
