Andrews, Jr., Lee
Lee Andrews, Jr., a long time Fairfield resident, died peacefully in his home on Sunday, April 27th. He was 87 years old.
He was born to the late Lee Andrews and Iris (Clifford) Andrews in Greenwich, CT on March 10, 1927. Upon graduation from Greenwich High School in 1945, Lee joined the Army
Air Corps and served through 1946. Returning from service, he opened an insurance business in Greenwich which he ran until he was called to duty again in 1950. He served in the Air Force through 1951.
Lee married Carol Brautigam in 1953 and they lived in the Mansion at Tod's Point in Old Greenwich (now Greenwich Point), where he was also a member of the Old Greenwich Volunteer Fire Department. Lee and Carol were married for more than 60 years until her passing in November of 2013.
Eventually settling in Fairfield, he spent more than three decades as an automobile salesman working in New York and Connecticut, before retiring in 1987 to focus on restoring and refinishing antique furniture which was one of his many hobbies. He and his wife owned an Antique store in Cannondale, CT until 1992. He also loved boating and fishing and was avid reader and a regular at the Fairfield Public Library. Always friendly and cheerful, Lee will be remembered for his sense of humor and his stories.
Lee is survived by his brother Fredrick of Hartford, and by his four children: Amy Andrews Blumenthal (Tom) of Riverside, Claudia Vonderheyde of Milford, Eric Andrews (Anne) of San Jose, CA and Emily Cotrona (Joe) of Stamford. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Anders, Nicholas, Sarah, Charlotte, Emma, Tess and Julia.
Lee's family would like to thank the many neighbors and friends who would frequently check in or stop by for a visit. He was fortunate to have a wonderful community supporting him in his later years.
