Nettie Ash Wollkind, 99, died peacefully Wednesday, November 28 at The Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield, CT. She was the beloved wife of the late Bert Wollkind. Nettie was born in New York City on January 23, 1913, the daughter of Molly and Benjamin Ash. A long time resident of Norwalk, Nettie moved to Trumbull after her husband's death in 1996 to live with her daughter. Nettie and Bert were owners of the Humpty Dumpty Toy Stores of Norwalk and Darien where they brought countless memories to a generation of adults and children alike. Nettie was a long time member of the Norwalk Jewish Community Center where she played an active role in developing youth and adult programs. Nettie was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. All will remember her for her kindness, charm and her beautiful smile. She will forever be missed by her adoring children, her daughter Vicki and son-in-law Tom Tesoro of Trumbull, Connecticut and her son Alan and daughter-in-law Susan Wollkind of Cota de Caza, California, her most cherished grandchildren, Laura Tesoro, Melissa Tesoro, Stephen and Kristin Wollkind, and Spencer Wollkind. Nettie is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving sisters, Rose, Esther, Simmie, and her twin sister Sarah. She is survived by her sister Jeannie of Pensacola, Florida. The family expresses their deep appreciation to the devoted caregivers and the dedicated staff of The Jewish Home for the Elderly and Evercare. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. Interment will follow in the IHS/Temple Shalom Cemetery, Richards Avenue, Norwalk. Shiva, a period of mourning, will be observed at the home of Vicki and Tom Tesoro beginning Sunday evening, Dec. 2 through Tuesday evening Dec. 4.
