Age 65, of Shelton, beloved husband of Nancy (Dolyak) Miller, died suddenly on Wednesday, May 21, 2013 at Griffin Hospital. Bob was born in Bridgeport to the late Robert E. Miller, Jr. and Mary Baker Miller. Bob was a decorated Vietnam Veteran where he served as a sergeant in the US Marine Corps
. He was awarded two Purple Heart
s,Gallantry Cross Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal and Marine Corp Good Conduct during the Vietnam War
. During his proud service to our country, he received many commendations including Rifle Sharpshooter and Pistol Marksman. Bob retired as captain from the Bridgeport Fire Department where he had been employed for most of his thirty-six years at Engine and Ladder 10. He was named ""Firefighter of the Year"" in 1996. Bob and his brother firefighters traveled to NYC. and assisted in the rescue and recovery of 9/11.The City of Bridgeport honored him with ""Bob Miller Day"" on November 7, 2007. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Monsignor Murphy Council #4716 where he had been named ""Knight of the Year"" and received an award for outstanding service to the Knights of Columbus. The role he cherished most though, was as a devoted grandfather to Madysen and Kyle. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Steven Miller of Shelton; two grandchildren, Madysen and Kyle Miller of Shelton; three brothers, Thomas (Roberta) Miller of Stratford, Dennis (Sally) Miller of FL and Christopher (Lordes) Miller of FL; five sisters, Kathy (Butch) Bombardier of Hebron, Joan Corcoran of Milford, Mary Rakos of Shelton , Laury (Harry) Generous of Stratford and Jeanne (Curtis) DeBrizzi of Prospect; brother-in-law, William (Patsy)Dolyak of New Canaan; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Reinalda of Shelton, Rose Rodrigues of Milford and Judy Miller of Seymour; twenty one loving nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Christine and two nieces, Melissa Bombardier and Courtney Holland. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 10 am at St. Margaret Mary Church, 380 Long Hill Ave., Shelton. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to grandchildren's college fund 28 Walnut Tree Hill Rd, Shelton, CT.
