Barone, Rose M.
Rose Marie Pace Barone, 94, of Fairfield, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Fairview Health of Southport. She was born on April 26, 1920 in Buffalo, New York, and received a BA from the University of Buffalo in 1943, a MS from the University of Southern California in 1950, and a Certificate of Advanced Study from Fairfield University in 1963. She married her late husband, John A. Barone, on August 23, 1947 and enjoyed a wonderful life with him until his death on June 1, 2007. From 1943 until 1980, Rose Marie was a high school teacher
in Angola, New York; Puente, California; Lafayette, Indiana, and Bridgeport, Connecticut. She was an accomplished writer and poet, and received the 1956 Auerbach Foundation Scholar Award from Fairfield University; the 1955 Playwriting Prize, the 1985 First Prize for Poetry, and the 1987, 1988, and 1990 Short Story Awards from the Connecticut Federated Women's Clubs; the 1993 Salute to Women Award from the YWCA; the 1994 Women of Substance Award, and the 2000 Award from the Connecticut State Commission for the Arts. For her numerous achievements, she was recognized in Who's Who in America. She was also very active in various community and charitable organizations throughout her life. She is survived by a niece, Betty Jane Picciano, of Fort Mohave, AZ; and by numerous nieces and nephews of her late husband.

Charles Allen, S.J. Entombment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
