Rosemary Meath Ainley

AINLEY Rosemary Meath Ainley, age 84, a lifelong resident of Stratford, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008 after a sudden illness. For the past eight years, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Burlington. Rosemary was married to Frederick James Ainley for 53 years and together they ran Ainley Appliance Service for 30 years. The daughter of James Anthony Meath and Mabel Greenwood Meath, she was born and raised in Bridgeport, a 1942 graduate of Bassick High School and attended Whalester College in Milford. She worked as an executive secretary at both the Bridgeport Brass Company and Avco Lycoming before her marriage to Fred. She was foremost a classy lady who was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Active as a volunteer for various groups in her community, she was a past member of the Sterling Ski Club and Fair-Weather Yacht Club. She was a member of her bridge club with her lifelong friends for more than 50 years. An accomplished musician, avid fisherwoman, and gardner, her greatest passions were the arts, especially music. She loved all kinds of music, classic movies of the sliver screen, theater, the Red Socks and the New England Patriots. She was a history buff, as well, recounting off-hand the history of the English monarchy. Rosemary had the Irish gift of a good story teller. Rosemary was a caring and loving lady and will be greatly missed by her friends and family. She is survived by her three children, Judith Ainley and her husband, Richard Gladych of Burlington, Margaret Smith and her husband, Doctor Gregory Smith of West Bloomfield, Mich. and Ross Ainley of Birmingham, Mich.; two grandchildren, Rachel and Alex Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews;. Her siblings, Marie Kaiser of Fairfield, Elizabeth Miller of Wilmont, N.H. and, her brother, Dr. James Anthony Meath of Dublin, N.H., all predeceased her. The family will receive family and friends Saturday, August 16, 2008 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Dennis and D'Arcy Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford.
