Sylvia Koski, age 97 of Newington, CT., passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 23, 2014. Sylvia was born to her loving parents, the late Dr. Adolph and Rose Hartstein, who encouraged her passion for music. Sylvia graduated from Colombia University and later the Juilliard School before beginning her career in music in New York City. Sylvia performed with the Carman Caballero Orchestra, touring in California until 1949, when she joined the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. After leaving the orchestra in 1966, Sylvia shared her love of music with her students as a teacher in the Newington School System and through private music lessons. Sylvia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward Koski, and by her adored sister Marion Rubenstein.
A special thank you is extended to Sylvia's caregiver, Una Ellison, who provided Sylvia with dedicated care and friendship. Services will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 2:30 PM, directly at the Loyalty Cemetery on Burroughs Road in Fairfield.
