Barrett, Sr., William L.
William L. Barrett, Sr., age 91, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Wilma Miller Barrett, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2014 in Bridgeport Hospital.
Bill's memory will be cherished by his children, Susan Barrett, of Fairfield, William Barrett, Jr., and his wife, Barbara, of Fairfield; two grandsons, William L. Barrett, III and Christopher J. Barrett; one sister, Eleanor Scott, of Fairfield; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his devoted wife Wilma and parents, he was predeceased by his granddaughter, Heather, and sister, Mildred Flanigen.
The son of the late Peter and Amelia Vogler Barrett, Bill was a lifelong resident of Fairfield. With quiet pride, he served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II
, and was a member of the American Legion Post 143 in Fairfield. A talented tool and die maker, he worked for Singer Corporation, CBS and Philips Medical Systems before his retirement.
Bill was community minded and enjoyed his past involvement with the Fairfield Kiwanis Club, Gaelic - American Club and also served on the Fairfield Democratic Town Committee. He was an active member of Holy Family Church, where he served as an usher. Bill had a great appreciation for cars and was an antique license plate collector. He was fond of travel, especially his many visits to Ireland.
Bill believed in making a positive impact on all whom he touched in life, and will be dearly remembered by his family and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 PM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM in Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Road, Fairfield. His interment with military honors will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
His family would prefer memorial contributions to: Saint John Fisher Seminary is 894 Newfield Ave. Stamford CT. 06905 or the American Legion Post 143 in Fairfield.
