Wayne Moore Obituary

Moore, Wayne R.
Wayne Richard Moore, 83 of Trumbull, CT , died surrounded by his loved ones, on February 20, 2015 after a long illness. Son of Richard F. and Mary S. Moore, he was born in Bridgeport and was a lifelong resident. Wayne was president and CEO of Moore Special Tool Company (Bridgeport, CT) founded by his father Richard F. Moore in 1924. Wayne was the author of "Foundations of Mechanical Accuracy", a text on precision engineering that was translated into seven languages and became a classic reference in the machine tool world.
Wayne attended Harding High School (Class of 1949) in Bridgeport CT and became a determined swimmer while practicing near his childhood home at Pinewood Lake in Trumbull. He went on to study economics at Yale College where he developed his athletic passion and became the captain of the 1952-1953 swim team for Yale under the famous Eli coach, Bob Kiphuth. Wayne won gold medals at intercollegiate championship races and in the 1952 Olympic games held at Helsinki.
Upon completing college, Wayne was drafted into the US Army to serve in the Korean War. Before entering the army, Wayne married his life-long love, Janice Elaine Weyls. They eventually settled in Trumbull, CT where they enjoyed life together for sixty-one years raising five children and being actively involved with fifteen grand-children, many of whom live on adjoining property. In Wayne's professional career he also served as chairman for the National Machine Tool Builder's Association (NMTBA), ACME United Corporation and was the director for the American Precision Museum and the Bridgeport Engineering Institute.
Happy to be in a position where he could help, Wayne lovingly gave his talents, wisdom and financial resources to better the lives of others. He was an active member of Nichols United Methodist Church and other charitable organizations. He was proud to be a Christian and appreciated the legacy of Christian works of which he was a part.
Wayne spent his leisure time best outdoors either splitting wood for his fireplace or in his gardens tending organically grown vegetables and fruits, most notably sweet corn and blueberries.
His high moral values and character impacted many and his sweet and humble nature made him loved by all.
He is survived by his wife Janice (Weyls) Moore and their children and grandchildren as follows: daughter Coliene Moore of VT (and grandsons Michael and Dane Landrigan); son Wayne (Skip) Moore Jr., and his wife Elene of Trumbull (and grandchildren Wade, Russell, Hayes, Colton and Keelea); daughter Jennifer Puffenberger and her husband Jeffrey of VA (and grandchildren Jake, Jessica and Julia); John Moore and his wife Kimberly of Trumbull (and grandsons Colin, Brendan, and Liam); and son David Moore (his late wife, Sarah) of MA (and grandsons Benjamin, Joshua and Jacob); a sister Frances Hansen of MA; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Evelyn, Richard and Glenn. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on February 28th at 11:00 a.m. directly at Nichols United Methodist Church 35 Shelton Road, Trumbull. A reception in Fellowship Hall will be held immediately following the memorial service.
