John Scinto Obituary

Scinto, John J.
Suddenly on his favorite beach in Cape Cod, John Scinto, age 82, of Stratford, suffered a massive heart attack and died at Cape Cod Hospital on Tuesday, July 23, 2013.
Born on April 20, 1931 to John and Josephine Capozzi Scinto, he was president of the Class of 1949 at Central High School in Bridgeport and graduated from Yale University and the Georgetown University School of Law. For many years he worked in the insurance industry and later practiced law in the federal courts in Washington, D.C. An outstanding baseball player at Central and Yale, he later played professional baseball for the Detroit Tigers minor league team in the Florida State League.
In recent years, he traveled widely with his wife, enjoying annual winter vacations in the Caribbean and cultural trips to Greece, Egypt, China and Tibet, the Ukraine and Russia.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Helen Clabby Scinto; his daughter, Susan McEwan, her husband Robert and their children, Kathryn and James of Trumbull; his sons, John D. Scinto of Trumbull and Robert L. Scinto and his wife, Erin, of Stratford; his brother, Donald R. Scinto and his wife, Marie, of Trumbull; seven half-brothers and half-sisters; two special nieces, Donelle Scinto Toner and her husband, Michael, of Shelton and Debbie Iassogna of Oxford; and several other nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to meet directly at Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 10:00 am. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be officiated by Rev. Birendra Soreng. Committal services will be private. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 - 8 pm at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
