Sidney Madwed Obituary

MADWED, SIDNEY
Sidney Madwed, age 87 of Fairfield, passed away on Thursday July 4, 2013 at St. Vincent's Medical Center after a long illness. Mr. Madwed was born in Bridgeport, CT., and for 63 years was the beloved husband of Shirley Miriam Madwed "Rusty" of Fairfield, CT. In addition to his wife, Sidney is survived by his children, Bert (Ilene) Madwed, Susan (Edward) Guttmann, Mark (Fern) Madwed, and Sarah (Kenneth) Bazydola; his grandchildren Deborah (Timothy) Holcomb, Oren and Jared Guttmann, Zachary and Lucas Bazydola, Dana, Daniel, Andrew, Jason, and Alyssa Madwed; his great-granddaughter Michaela Holcomb; his sisters-in-law Sylvia Frumer, Alice and Ruth Madwed; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Fanny Madwed, brothers Jack and Albert Madwed, and sister Hinda Ethel Hausman; his dear in-laws Benjamin and Gertrude "Grammy" Kreiger. Sidney graduated with honors from Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he was a member of the Tau Beta Pi and Skull honor societies. He also graduated with a Masters of Engineering from Yale University and a member of Skull and Bones. Sidney was a veteran of WWII. He was a design engineer at Sikorsky Aircraft before joining the family business. He was an active member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom Board of Trustees, JCC Bagel Club, Toastmasters, and National Speakers Association. Sidney was a painter, sculptor, poet, and public speaker. He volunteered many hours of his time as a Scoutmaster; a chaperone of Jewish youth groups; and workshop leader and mentor for both Junior Achievement and Rotary Youth (RYLA). He also volunteered at the Hole-in-the-Wall-Gang Camp. In recent years Sidney entertained seniors at homes for the elderly in Maryland and Connecticut. Contributions in Sidney's memory may be made to the Hole-in-the-Wall-Gang Camp, Congregation Rodeph Sholom, or a charity of your choice. Services will take place on Sunday July 7, 2013 at 11:00 AM from The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home 88 Beach Road in Fairfield, with interment following at Rodeph Sholom Memorial Park on Kings Highway.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Sid was a very gentle soul. I was glad that our paths crossed and will not forget our talks that we had during exam weekend. He will be missed.

To Mariam and family,
I am very sorry to hear of the loss of Sid. I always enjoyed being around him, he was such a fun and giving person. I still have the million dollar bill he gave me of course it had his picture on it. He will be greatly missed. May your hearts soon be filled with the wonderful memories you have of him, as you celebrate a life that touched so many.

Sidney Madwed was a kind, caring and creative man. I loved being around Sid because he was always interesting and entertaining. Sid was blessed with a wonderful wife and adoring family. I will deeply miss you Sid.
