Novak, Jana Lee.
NOVAK - Jana Lee Novak, age 21 of Shelton, died January 9, 2015 at Griffin Hospital, Derby following a sudden illness. Born in Seoul, Korea on August 25, 1993, she was the beloved daughter of Darren J. Novak of Shelton and the late Susan J. Serra Novak. Miss Novak was a lifelong Shelton resident and 2011 graduate of Shelton High School. She was currently enrolled as a psychology major at Fairfield University and enjoyed working at the Fairfield University Radio Station. She will be remembered for her many talents and her special musical and artistic inclination.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her brother, Joseph Novak of Shelton; maternal grandparents, Janice Anthony Serra and Vincent Serra of Shelton; paternal grandmother, Helen Kerpchar Novak, of SC; as well as several devoted aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Joseph Novak.
A Mass of Christian Burial, meeting directly at church, will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, in St. Joseph Church, 424 Coram Ave., Shelton. Springtime interment will be in Lawn Cemetery, Huntington. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. Jana was enrolled for spring semester in the third of three courses that I teach at Fairfield University. She made it a point to come to my office just before semester break, to say how much she had enjoyed the other two (which she could have taken with other professors), and how much she looked forward to the spring. I don't recall whether I was alert enough to return the compliment, and tell her how much I enjoyed having her in class; I hope I did. Students like Jana are rare, but they are the ones who make it all worthwhile. I will remember and miss her with each lecture I give this semester.

I remember Jana as a sweet young girl from St. Joseph's grammar school who was always smiling. I am so sorry to learn of her passing. Jana you had a magical smile paired with such sunny eyes that always lit up a room—I know your soul will do the same in Heaven. I had the privilege of seeing you grow up from a super cute little girl into a beautiful young woman.
