Raymond Canfield

CANFIELD Raymond Gray Canfield, age 92, beloved husband of Winifred E. Doyle Canfield of Milford for 63 years died on Saturday, March 26, 2011. He was the son of the late Burton G. and Anna S. Canfield. Raymond was born on April 3, 1918 in Bridgeport. He graduated from Warren Harding High School in 1935, attended Lehigh University and graduated from New York University School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance. He enlisted with the Federalized 7th Regiment National Guard from New York in 1941. In 1942 he was assigned to an Army troop transport ship as a machine gunner. He graduated from Officers Candidate School in February 1943. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain in January 1946 having served with the 118th AAA Gun Battalion in the European Theater of Operation, participating in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of Bulge. He was recalled to active duty in 1951 for the Korean War and in 1952 commanded Battery C, 15th Field Artillery Bn. 2nd Infantry Div. Raymond retired after 30 years with the Norden Division in Norwalk, a subsidiary of United Technologies as Supervisor of Cost Accounting Dept. in 1983. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Milford, a choir member for 25 years, a Vestryman and Junior & Senior Warden for 10 years. He was Past Master of Corinthian Lodge #104, A.F.&A.M. Fairfield, Past Trustee, honorary life member in Corinthian Lodge Fellowcraft Association for services rendered. York Rite membership consisted of Jerusalem Chapter #13 RAM; Jerusalem Council #16 RSM; Hamilton Commandery #5 K.T., Stratford. Scottish Rite activity consisted of Past Thrice Potent Master Dewitt Clinton Lodge of Perfection Valley of Bridgeport, AASR. Past Commander and Chief of Lafayette Consistory AASR and an honorary 33rd recipient, Past Treasurer for 25 years. Incorporator and Past Secretary of the Scottish Rite Building Corp. Member of the Royal Order of Scotland; St. Andrew's Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine; Member of Twilight Club, Bridgeport and Past Treasurer. Member of Pyramid Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Milford, Bridgeport Masonic Temple Association, Past Secretary, Chairman and Treasurer. Member of the Masonic Veterans Assoc. of CT, Norden's Retirees Club and also served as Chairman of the Advisory Board of Milford Rainbow Girls. He has resided in Milford for 57 years. He was also a winter resident of Stuart, FL for 15 years where he served as Treasurer of Cedar Pointe Condominiums, Village 8, Board of Directors for 4 years. Survivors in addition to his wife, Winifred, include two daughters, Nancy J. Fugal of Woodmont and Deborah L. O'Meara and her husband, Frank, of Milford; sister Mrs. Robert W. LaFontaine of Milford. He also leaves six grandchildren, Laurie Ott and husband William; Howard Fugal and wife Stephannie; Rebecca Fugal, Lisbeth Greist and husband Harold; Christopher Micklus and wife Amanda; and Jeffrey Micklus; seven great grandchildren and two nieces. He was predeceased by brother, Burton S. Canfield, and granddaughter, Ashlee Fugal. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in The Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford. Masonic services will be held at 7p.m. His funeral will be held DIRECTLY at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 283 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford, on Thursday at 10AM. Interment with full military honors will be at Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, P.O.
