Aileen Bannon Obituary

Bannon, Aileen
Aileen walked quietly and gently to her loving Lord on Sunday, June 16, 2013. She was the wife of the late Robert G. Bannon and the daughter of Irish immigrants, Richard and Julia O'Neill Torpey. Aileen is survived by her devoted and loving children: Mary Jo Bannon of Middletown; Sue (late Tom Sullivan) and children Timothy, Katie, Brian, and Matthew of Marlborough; Matthew and his wife Nancy and their children Tierney, Colin, and Colleen of Westport; Timothy and his wife Denise and their children Connor and Michael of Oklahoma. Also her ever-devoted sister and friend, Jo Torpey of East Hartford. A day did not go by that they did not talk. She also leaves many nieces , nephews and friends. Aileen's caregiver Vida, was her lively, loving, and protective friend. The Bannon and Sullivan families will be forever grateful to Vida for her gentle and compassionate care of their Mom. Vida added a special 'quality of life' to Mom's final years. Aileen answered to many names: Aileen Alana (little Aileen), "I", Kate, Ma, Tod, Mrs. B, and Torp but her favorite was Ma. Aileen was a proud life time resident of East Hartford and an active member of St. Mary's parish. She was a member of the St Mary's parish school's first class to have attended from kindergarten to 9th grade and then graduated from East Hartford High School in 1943. Aileen met Bob while employed at Hartford City Hall. Their East Hartford home was, for years, the gathering place for family and friends for all family parties. In later years, summers were enjoyed at their lakeside home in Rome, Maine where their children, grandchildren, and friends will forever have cherished memories. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday June 20 at 10am in St. Mary's Church, 15 Maplewood Ave., East Hartford. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Hartford. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Wednesday, June 19 from 4-8pm. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Church, 15 Maplewood Ave., East Hartford, CT. 06108 or to the CT Children's Medical Foundation Center, 12 Charter Oak Place, Hartford, CT. 06106. Mary Jo, Sue, Matt and Tim ~

We are so sorry for the loss of your mother. She was a very special lady. Your parents are now together again for eternity. The Bannons were the best neighbors to have on McKee Street. We have many fond memories. May your Mom rest in peace and watch over all of you at this most difficult time.
