Ann Bilcheck Obituary

Bilcheck, Ann Yurgilevich.
Ann Bilcheck, 95, 0f Stratford, CT, loving wife of the late William Bilcheck, Sr., passed away on April 12, 2014. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Nancy Bilcheck and Cathy Ralston of Stratford, CT; William and Holly Bilcheck of Madison, CT; and Sergei and Lynda Bilcheck of Southbury, CT. Also, Ann leaves behind six wonderful grandchildren who were the pride of her life: Cody, Brendan, Colin and Brett Bilcheck of Madison, CT; and Christopher and Julie Bilcheck of Southbury, CT. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Kalendra of Bridgeport, CT. Ann was predeceased by her brother, William Yurgilevich and Sister, Anita Yurgilevich.. During World War II, Ann served in the U.S. Navy as a W.A.V.E. as a medical technician and became part of what is now called America's Greatest Generation. While serving in the Navy, she met a handsome Army Sergeant, William Bilcheck, at a dance at Pleasure Beach. While the war kept them apart for many years, when William returned home on leave from serving overseas in the Pacific, they were married on April 15, 1945 and lived a happy life together for the next 46 years. After raising her three children, Ann learned to drive a car and became employed by Waterbury Lock for many years. Following her retirement, Ann enjoyed tending to her garden and flowers, sewing, knitting and caring for her grandchildren. She was a parishioner of The Orthodox Greek Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist on Broadbridge Avenue, Stratford, CT for over seventy years where she was an active participant. In her later years, you could find her sitting on the wall in front of her house at 620 King Street, where she lived for close to 60 years, conversing with neighborhood friends and school children. She became affectionately known as the Lollipop Lady for handing out lollipops and candy to the school children as they walked to and from school. Ann was also a fan of the New York Yankees and Uconn Basketball. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, April 16th at 9:45 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, and at 10:30 a.m. in St. John's Church, Broadbridge Avenue Stratford, for a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Panachida will be at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Ann had requested that donations be made to the Mihaly-Chornock Academic Scholarship Fund in care of St. John the Baptist Church, 1240 Broadbridge Avenue, Stratford, CT 06615. Dear Nancy, Bill, Sergei and family,
We were so sorry to hear about your mom. She certainly has lived her life to the fullest. Mrs. Bilcheck will always be remembered as a caring woman, dear friend and lovely neighbor of my husband's parents, Dick and Jean Donaldson. There were many times your mom would make "goodies" and give my children little things that she crocheted (my daughters still cherish them). Much love to all of you during this difficult time - as you know you will soon find comfort in all of the beautiful memories you have stored in your hearts. God bless always.
Love,
Dave & Pattie Donaldson
