Barbara Bossler Obituary
Sr. Barbara Bossler (Sister Barbara Maureen) of the Sisters of Mercy died Sunday December 1, 2013 in West Hartford. Born March 23, 1938, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Hotkowski) Bossler, she was raised in Hartford, attending St. Joseph Cathedral grade and high schools. Sister Barbara earned a B.A in Latin from St. Joseph College, West Hartford before entering the Sisters of Mercy in 1960, and while teaching high school at Mercy in Middletown and Mt. St. Joseph Academy, she earned a M.A. in Latin and a 6th year certificate in English. Most of her next 32 years was spent teaching Latin, her first love, at St. Paul High School in Bristol and Longfellow School and Central High, both in Bridgeport before her retirement in 2010. Gifted with a beautiful and gracious smile, Barbara enjoyed a good laugh and being with people. Most recently she celebrated 53 years of religious life with her class, savoring the memories and, of course, the dessert! She is predeceased by her parents, John and Elizabeth, and her twin sister, Carol Ann Liska. She is survived by her sister, Janet (and Stanley) Cohen, several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, her brother-in-law, Joseph Liska and her sisters in the Mercy community. Sister Barbara's life will be celebrated with a Mass of the Resurrection on Thursday December 5 at 6:00PM in the chapel of St. Mary Home, 2021 Albany Ave., West Hartford. Friends may call from 3-5PM prior to the funeral Mass. Burial will take place on Friday December 6 at 9:00AM at St. Mary Cemetery. I am saddened to hear of Sis Barbara's passing. We worked together at Longfellow School and shared many a lunch just talking and laughing. She was a dedicated teacher and did all she could do to see that her students succeeded. My prayers to the family.

My sympathies to those who loved Sister Barbara Maureen. She was a very fine teacher and a lovely woman. I had studied years of Latin with her at Mount Saint Joseph Academy. Sister Barbara Maureen made our 1974 trip to Italy memorable. I hope she is at peace.

I am so saddened to read of Sister Barbara Maureen's passing. I remember her cheerful personality and gracious smile.
I recall having an intense conversation with her about a fairly new concept in home ownership, the condominium. This was probably around 1970. Sister Barbara Maureen thought this new trend would catch on quickly. She was correct! My prayers go out the the family.

Thank you Aunt Barbara an inspiration in my life. I have fond memories of the times we spent together, with Johnny, Ronnie, Nettie, Mom, and Grandma. I am so sorry to read about the assing of Sr. Barbara Maureen. I just recently got together with some classmates from the Mount and we were discussing teachers. Sr. Barbara Maureen's name came up and we all agreed she was one of the nicest and kindest teachers! I will always credit her with giving me the love and appreciation of reading. Please know she is in my prayers.
