Ben,
Thank you for providing a sanctuary for me from juvenile delinquency and a life of crime. You planted a seed of hope that helped me accomplish much in New York as a graphic designer and in graduate school where I completed my MFA in computer graphics design as a distinguished scholar from the Rochester Institute of Technology. It gets better; I am now pursuing my PhD in
Education Technology, again this drive and giant leap of faith, I owe to you and the staff of
the ABCD cultural art center of Bridgeport, CT

God will bless you and reward you for your kindness and good will toward other people. Your strong sense of self worth and pride of your race and ancestry, did not deter you from loving and helping other people of different races and background. God bless your memory always. Ulises E. Dear Johnson Family,

It is with a heavy heart that I offer my condolences to you. I have had the honor and privilege of knowing Ben for the past several years when we worked together at the Beardsley Lighthouse Program. He is truly one of the most thoughtful, kind and gentle spirits that I have ever had the opportunity to know. I knew that he had to deal with and would always ask how things were going. But he always turned the conversation to how I was and how I was managing with my own family issues. He was a very good listener and always gave me sound and wise advice. He had a way of making you feel that whatever you were talking about was so very important - adults and students. All of the students truly loved him and enjoyed their "crazy" conversations with him. Please know that he made a difference in so many lives and his kindness and humor touched all of us. I pray that his memories will help you to get through this difficult time. I know that I will certainly smile every time I think of him and the impact he made on me. I will miss him terribly, but I am lucky and grateful to have known such an incredible man.
