Cheryl Hickenbotham Obituary
Cheryl Devonne Thigpen Hickenbotham,age 59 of Bridgeport entered into eternal rest Sunday, September 29, 2013 at the VAMC, West Haven, CT. Born in Pantego , NC, Cheryl received an Associates Degree in criminal justice, served her country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. She was employed as a dietary aide at Bridgeport Manor and met her spiritual needs as a disciple of Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, Stamford, CT where she served in several choirs. Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Tamara Bawala and Crystal Hickenbotham of Bridgeport and Latonya Crewes of NC; her parents, Elder Thurmond H. (Rosa) Thigpen, Sr. of Bridgeport; two brothers, Thurmond H. Thigpen, Jr. and Aubrey K. Thigpen of Bridgeport; three sisters. Elsie Jones of Bridgeport, Grindel Spinks of Monroe and Truleia Carrington of New Haven; two grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2013, 10:00 AM at Morton's Mortuary, Inc., 25 Margaret E. Morton Lane, Bridgeport with Minister Isaac Carrington, officiating. Interment will follow the service with full military honors in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, CT. Friends are invited to the viewing Tuesday from 9:00 - 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Tamara, Tonya, Crystal & Grindal - I tried hard to see you the day of your mother / sister's funeral but it was so packed (a wonderful memory) I couldn't get to you.
I just wanted to let you know that you had such a sweet mom and sister. Remembering the days of Holy Tabernacle where we had some of the best times. Cheryl's sassy sense of humor was very similar to mine and that is one thing I will miss. Not too many people get it, “it's just not that serious” – but we did. Just wanted to let you know that we are praying for you and please continue to lean on God – you will find that He is the only comfort in any and all of this. Stay sweet.

My condolences to the entire family.Ms. Hickenbotham was definitely a part of "the village" of raising us kids and I will always appreciate and thank her for that!
