Jane Dembiczak Obituary

Dembiczak, Jane B.
Jane B. Dembiczak, 74, of West Haven, devoted wife of Walter Dembiczak, passed away September 4, 2013 at Yale New Haven Hospital (St. Raphael Campus) from aggressive melanoma. She was born in New Haven on June 14, 1939, the daughter of the late Clarence and Regina Comeau Babin. Jane worked as a licensed insurance agent for many years for numerous local insurance companies until her retirement. She had many varied interests from baseball (Red Sox) to family Genealogy to photography, classes for which she was currently enrolled. She especially loved playing bridge with her friends, although mostly when she "slaughtered the men." Up until her passing, she was a very active (and vocal) member of Our Lady of Victory Choir in West Haven, from whose members she drew tremendous happiness and strength. Jane was a true Matriarch: not only did she raise two children, but also served as the pre-adoptive foster Mother for at least 27 infant children (at last count.) One-by-one, Jane and Walter cared for each of them alongside their own children during the several month phase from birth through final placement with their new families. This was a task which personifies the core of her personality, which can best be described as lovingly unselfish and nurturing. To be sure, this was a self-prescribed and immensely important responsibility, the only reward from which was personal and spiritual satisfaction. This period of time during the late 70s and early 80s is still, to this day, a source of her family's most cherished and touching memories. Besides her husband she leaves her loving children, Michael J. Dembiczak of New Haven and Carol J. Dembiczak of East Haven; her cherished sister, Marie Boudreau and her husband William of North Haven (whose family she loved and admired more than can be described here), nieces and nephews Ed (and DeeJay) Condon, Joe (and Jennifer) Condon, Brian (and Kelly) Condon, Marion Zambory, Rick Marchese, Jonathan Boudreau, Leslie (and Paul) DeGiacomo, and Justin (and Brandi) Boudreau; grand-nieces and grand-nephews Stephanie (and John) Robertson, Taryn Zambory, Jessica DeGiacomo, Evan & Griffin Boudreau; great-grand-nephews Tyler and Kyle Robertson; her "Second daughter" Patricia (and Enrique) Feliciano and her 'adopted' grand-daughter Selena Feliciano, all of whom should know she loved immensely and individually. How fortunate Jane was, in that she was so universally admired that she also leaves in her path countless cherished friends, the mere listing of which would have names spilling right off this page and into your lap!
Family and friends are invited to call from 4:00 - 7:00 pm Monday, September 9th at Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Jane's transition from the physical to the spiritual will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, September 10th, 2013 at Our Lady of Victory Church, 600 Jones Hill Road, West Haven, CT. Guests are kindly asked to go directly to the Church. Burial will be private. To honor her Spirit of giving, Loved Ones are encouraged to perform a RAOK (random act of kindness) in her memory. In lieu of cut-flowers or arrangements, contributions can be made in Jane's name to The American Cancer Society. Those wishing to send condolences online may do so at www.keenanfuneralhome.com
