Joanne Weiss DeMartin of Fairfield, died peacefully on Monday afternoon, September 23rd after a long illness. With her heart full of love, she has left behind her husband Dr. Jack DeMartin; their two daughters, Alicia DeMartin of Fairfield, and Joanna DeMartin, of New York City and Stonington; and Gillan DeMartin, her only grandchild nearly one year old, the son of Joanna and David Guglielmo. She also has left her twin sisters, Patricia Porter of the Black Rock section of Bridgeport; Mary Leah Weiss of New York City; her brother Jack Weiss and his wife Sally of Wayland, Massachusetts; her husband's twin brother and his wife, Dr. Robert and Robin DeMartin of Fairfield; several nieces and nephews; countless dear friends. Joanne was born in 1933 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Mary Immaculate Nursing School in Jamaica, Long Island and worked for many years as Director of Nurses at Carolton Chronic and Convalescent Hospital in Fairfield. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5-8 PM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 AM directly in St. Thomas Church 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. A private interment will immediately follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the Town of Fairfield Animal Shelter, 211 One Rod Highway, Fairfield, CT 06824.
