Joseph Merrigan Obituary

Merrigan, Joseph M.
Joseph M. Merrigan, age 94, of Bridgeport, was taken home to the Lord on his birthday, November 17, 1919 at St. Joseph Manor. He was the husband of the late Helen (Masek) Merrigan.
Mr. Merrigan was born in Bridgeport to the late Patrick and Mary Merrigan. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1954. Mr. Merrigan was aboard the first ship to enter Tokyo Bay during World War II where he served on a minesweeping ship.
Mr. Merrigan retired from the City of Bridgeport where he had been employed at the Dinan Center. He had also worked at GE and Casco Products. He enjoyed playing cribbage.
Survivors include four nephews, Joseph Pronechen and his wife, Mary, of Trumbull, Stephen Pronechen and his wife, Natalie, of Trumbull, Albert Masek and his wife, Karen, of Milford and Raymond Masek and his wife, Laura, of Shelton; brother-in-law, Albert Masek, Sr. of Bridgeport; grandnephews, Stephen, Michael and Matthew Pronechen; and several grandnephews and grandnieces.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 11:00 am DIRECTLY at St. Theresa Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow at the State of Connecticut Veteran's Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. There will be no prior calling hours.
