Michel Delhaise Obituary

Delhaise, Michel G.
Michel G. Delhaise, age 58, died peacefully at home of complications from lung cancer which was diagnosed in Nov, 2012. He was well-known in the art and antiques profession, and was co-owner of Jordan Delhaise Gallery, originally of Westport, Ct. and lately of Woodbury, Ct. Born in Ghent, Belgium, Michel grew up in Brussels. In his 20's he became the commercial attaché from the Belgian government to the south eastern region of the U.S. He was first stationed in Atlanta, and then in New Orleans, which he adopted as his second home.
Michel is survived by 2 brothers and several nieces and nephews in Brussels, and by his partner of 30 years in the U.S., George E. Jordan. He will be best remembered for his warmth, compassion, thoughtfulness and generosity. He was not only a gentleman, but a gentle man. Interment will be private.

I am so saddened to hear of this news. While Michel and I lost contact years ago, we had some fun times in New Orleans when he was the Belgian Trade Commissioner. And, it was because of you and your lovely family that I was introduced to your native country when I went to visit so many years ago. Because of you, dear Michel, Belgium is in my most beautiful European travel memories.

So sorry to have read this, and very sorry for your loss, Mr. Jordan. I have wonderful memories of your home in Wilton, and then in Westport.
Michel was a kind man who was supportive and very charming. His example helped me with my work with the public and with antique circles.
Again my condolences.

Dear Michel, I'm sorry I didn't get to say goodbye. Yet you were in my thoughts and prayers every day during your fight. I knew, of course, that you were in good hands with George by your side; that you were well loved as you are now still and forever. I will miss you dearly. I will miss crossing the street to visit you at the gallery, where infallibly, with that European breeding and gentlemanliness of yours and your God given gentleness, you made me feel like your most important client each time - though I never could buy anything!
I know that this fleeting world is but a beginning to life everlasting. I trust that the gates of heaven are open to you and pray that we shall meet again. Goodbye, my friend.
