Monica Edwards Obituary

Edwards, Monica G.
Monica Mary Barden Edwards, age 79, longtime Milford resident and devoted wife of the late Raymond J. Edwards, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 9, 2014 at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 17, 1935, Monica was the daughter of the late Oscar and Dorothea Barden. She attended St. Barnabas High School in Bronx, NY and went onto attend Hunter College in New York City.
She worked for the New York Telephone Company. During that time, she met her husband, Ray at a local church dance. They married on Sept. 8, 1956 and lived many happy years together.
Monica and Ray moved their family to Milford in 1961. After raising her children, Monica worked for the Milford School District, Alinaball Inc., and Subway World Headquarters, from where she retired in 2001.
Monica is remembered for her quick wit and ability to spin a tale. She loved to dance the lindy, knit blankets for her grandchildren, read a good book and spend summers with family in New Hampshire.
She was a great listener who always had time to lend an ear. Monica took much pride in her grandchildren.
Monica belonged to the Newcomers Club of Milford, St. Mary's Home School Association, St. Agnes Ladies Guild and the Ladies Who Lunch Book Club.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, wife and friend, who thought about others with concern and care. She graced the world with thoughtfulness and kindness and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Monica is survived by her children Raymond Edwards (Deborah), Ellen Solomon (Jeffrey), Catherine Mazzola (Lawrence), Thomas Edwards (Barbara); her sisters Anna May Sousae (George), Catherine Vernon; sister-in-law Virginia Brown (Walter) of Northampton, Mass.; cherished grandchildren Daniel Solomon (Katherine), Kevin Solomon (Kathleen), Jennifer Solomon, Caitlin Mazzola, Meghan Mazzola, Michael Mazzola, Lauren Edwards (Dennis), Lisa Edwards, Nicole and Amanda Pressley, and Bobby Fennell; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins; and devoted friends Connie Schutter, Josephine Bucci and Cathy Cofer.
She is predeceased by her husband, Ray, her brothers Francis, John, Charles and Michael Barden, and her brother-in-law William Vernon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 70 Gulf Street in Milford. Friends and family may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13 at Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford, Conn. Her family would like to thank the staff of Memorial 3 West at Milford Hospital for their loving and compassionate care.

Aunt Monica,
What a full life you have led. You have touched more lives than you may ever know. I take that back, you're probably finding out all about that now. I've watched you all my life. I love the way you always seemed to remain calm amongst all the characters in our family. I love the way you listened, really listened to everyone. I love the way you cared for your parents, Uncle Ray and your siblings. And I especially loved the way you used sarcasm and humor all the time. Thank you for modeling for me. It is your time to soar, you've earned it. Did I mention that I love you?
