Hochheiser, Shirley
Shirley Hochheiser, age 94 of Stratford, Widow of Irving Hochheiser, passed away on Saturday April 12, 2014 at Connecticut Hospice. Mrs. Hochheiser was born in Chicago, IL., the daughter of the late Harry and Frieda Phillips, and moved to Bridgeport at age 3. She was a graduate of Central High School, the Junior College of Connecticut and the University of Michigan. Shirley was married to Irving Hochheiser in 1943, and worked as an executive secretary for the Bridgeport Brass Company, McKesson & Robbins, and Fred Brown Import / Export. She was honored in the National WW II Registry as a Civilian on the Home Front. Shirley was a long time member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom, and was a volunteer with the League of Women Voters, the Westport Country Playhouse, the Stamford Center for the Arts and the Shakespeare Festival Theater. She is survived by her sons, Bill (Melissa) of Albuquerque, NM., Stephen (Joe) of Pacifica, CA., granddaughters; Rachel Schwartz of Bethesda, MD., Julie Ilkovich of Brooklyn, NY., Karen Hochheiser of New Orleans, LA., great grandchildren, Hannah and Joshua Schwartz, and by her longtime companion Shayle Robins. Services will take place on Thursday April 17, 2014 at 12:00 PM from The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home 88 Beach Road in Fairfield, with interment following at Eintracht Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice (www.hospice.com)
