William Varga Obituary

Varga, William J.
William J. Varga, age 89 of Fairfield, the beloved husband of the late Jean (Lally) Varga and Alice (Tippett) Varga, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 30, 2013 with his family by his side. Born in Bridgeport to the late John and Anna (Suhanowski) Vargo, he was a lifelong area resident.
Following his graduation from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1942, Bill entered the United States Air Force during WWII. He served in France and England with the 9th Air Force Twin Bombers A26/B26. He was honorably discharged in 1945 after the dropping of the Atomic Bomb in Japan. Upon his return home, he married Jean Lally of Stratford and raised two sons. Bill was active as the Commander of the American Legion Post 74 and VFW Post 9427. He was President of the Scandinavian Club; President of the United Vets; President of the Human Services Commission in Fairfield; President of the Board of Directors of Parish Court Senior Housing, President of Trustees at the Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church; and also a Charter Member and Commissioner in the Health Department of Fairfield.
Bill was an Electronics Engineer at General Electric, Dictaphone Corp., Manning Maxwell and Moore and Eaton Corp. He retired in 1986.
He is survived by his loving sons, Glenn Varga and his wife, Mary of Fairfield, Dale Varga and his wife, Jane of Charlottesville, VA and David Tippett of Groton; and stepdaughter, Harriet Flehinger of New York City. He is also survived by his brother, Frank Vargo of Lexington, MA; two grandsons, Matthew and Jonathan Varga of Fairfield; three granddaughters, Stacey Parker, Kerry Bill and Katie Poole; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph and John Varga; daughter-in-law, Kathy Tippett; grandson, David Tippett; and his longtime companion, Hortense Wolfson.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 10 a.m. directly at the Fairfield Grace United Methodist in Fairfield. Interment with full Military Honors will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Friday, July 5th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield Center.

Dear Varga Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have known your dad for quite sometime while he was coming to the YMCA and he will be truly missed.
