Annie Hoffman Obituary

HOFFMAN Annie J. Hoffman, RN, of Fairfield, died on Monday, May 17, 2004, at her home. Annie was born in England, on February 9, 1914, the daughter of John Jackson and Margaret (Edwards) Jackson. After the death of their mother in 1925, Annie and her sister were cared for by their devoted aunt and stepmother, Ethel (Edwards) Jackson. Annie graduated from Harding High School in 1932, and from the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing in 1935. She worked for many years in Bridgeport Hospital and later in the area as a private-duty nurse. Annie was a member of the United Congregational Church for more than 60 years and was active there as a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout troop leader and Youth Group mother. After her retirement, Annie served as a volunteer nurse for the American Red Cross Blood Banks and also volunteered for the Connecticut Audubon Society. The widow of H. Clayton Hoffman, Annie was predeceased by her sister, Irene Matthews. Annie was the loving mother of Margaret Mayer of Fairfield, and her husband, Richard; and Ethel Williams of Trumbull. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Meredith Williams Kreisman and her husband, Ira, of Boca Raton, Fla., Greyson Williams of Charlottesville, Va., Trevor Williams of Austin, Texas, Carl Mayer of Mount Vernon, N.Y., John Mayer of New York City, Benjamin Mayer of Fairfield, and Tristan Williams of Trumbull; and a great-grandson, Emmet Kreisman. Also left to mourn her passing are her niece, Linda Keller of Danville, Ind.; and nephew, Robert E. Matthews of Aurora, Ill. A private funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport, with the Rev. Arlene Studer officiating, followed by interment in Mountain Grove Cemetery.
