Dos Santos, Arlindo
Arlindo Dos Santos, age 92 of Bridgeport, passed away in his sleep in Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 4, 1921 in Ludlow, MA., he was the son of the late Bento and Albina (Goncalves) Santos. He was raised in Santo Andre, Portugal and returned to the United States in 1942, settling in New Bedford MA. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, and served in the 1st Calvary Division in the South Pacific. He returned to New Bedford and married Aurora Texeira Santos, his wife of 67 years. Mr. Dos Santos moved to Bridgeport in 1947 and was a member of the Laborers Union 667, and worked in the construction field until his retirement in 1983. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Arlindo G. Santos Jr., one daughter, Aldina Santos Pereira and husband Antonio, five grandchildren, Judith Burdelas and husband Michael, Anthony Pereira and wife Tanyce, Christina Pereira, Scott Santos, and his very special grandson, Andrew Pereira, whom he loved so much, three great grandchildren, Jasmine and Joshua Armstrong, Jackson Pereira, he also leaves to grieve his loss two brothers, Manuel Santos of Indian Orchard, MA., and Benjamin Santos of Ludlow, MA., as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Alceau Santos and a sister, Mary Dias. Mr. Dos Santos was a man who enjoyed simple pleasures, a good meal, a good glass of wine, and figs. What made him happiest was sharing meals with his family, especially when all the grandchildren could get together with him. He was a devoted husband and father, and a very loving grandfather. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 9:00 AM in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, 559 Washington Ave., Bridgeport and at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport with a Mass of the Christian Burial. Entombment in St. Michael Cemetery, Garden Mausoleum, Stratford. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148, in memory of Arlindo.
