Bevan, Jr., Rev. Dr. Charles
THE REV. DR. CHARLES A. BEVAN, JR., died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, after a brief illness. Born in 1944 in Camden, NJ, he was educated at Rider University and the Philadelphia Divinity School before receiving a doctorate from the Graduate Theological Foundation at Notre Dame, Indiana. He was ordained into the Episcopal Church in 1970, and was a Fellow of the Virginia Theological Seminary, the Graduate Theological Foundation and Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University. He attended Princeton Theological Seminary and Harvard Theological Seminary, and held a paralegal certificate. In 1984, he was admitted into the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem. Dr. Bevan served several parishes in New Jersey, Virginia and Connecticut; he last served as Priest-in-Charge, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church (Devon), Milford, CT, and was an Associate at Christ Church Cathedral, Hartford, CT. He is survived by sons, Charles A. Bevan III, Chattanooga, TN, Andrew L. Bevan, South Berwick, ME; G(eorge) Carter Bevan, Manchester, NH, and Jonathan T. Bevan, Burlington, VT; seven grandchildren; sister, Dorothy B. Oppmann, Delran, NJ, former wife, Virginia Flick Bevan, Lakeville, CT, and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Virginia Theological Seminary, 3737 Seminary Rd., Alexandria, VA 22304 or Rider University, 2083 Lawrenceville Rd., Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. The funeral service will be held at 10:00am, Monday, April 22nd, at Christ Church Cathedral, 45 Church St. (corner of Main and Church Sts.), Hartford, CT. All are cordially invited to a reception at the Cathedral, after the funeral. A private burial will take place the day prior at Salisbury Cemetery, Undermountain Rd., Salisbury, CT. The Kenny Funeral Home, Main St., Sharon, CT, is in charge of arrangements (860-364-5709).
