Eugene (Gene) George Arnold, age 87 of Huntington, beloved husband of 58 years to Walterina (Wally), died peacefully on Tuesday December 3rd at St. Vincent's Hospital. Gene was born on June 7th, 1926 in Newark NJ. He was raised by his mother Adele (Abrams) McCarthy and step father Albert McCarthy in the South-End of Bridgeport. He resided in Bridgeport most of his life until moving to Huntington, CT 25 years ago. Upon graduating from Central High School in 1944, he joined the Navy where served his country during World War II as an Aviation Radioman Third Class. In 1953, Gene joined the Bridgeport Fire Department where he served for 28 years retiring as a Pumper Engineer. He was a member of the Fire Union Local 834. After retirement from the Bridgeport Fire department, he worked for the Lindquist Supply Company and the American Red Cross. He later served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Gene was a thoughtful and caring person with many creative talents and was always lending a helping hand to others. In addition to his loving wife Wally, survivors include his three children, Jean Arnold-Barry and husband Kevin Barry of Fairfield, Edward Arnold and wife Wendy of Melrose, MA and Kathy Hunter and husband Scott of Woodbridge, his grandchildren Claire, Emma and Charles Arnold and Alexandra and William Hunter. Gene has many nieces, nephews, several great nieces and great nephews. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday December 7th at 10am in St. Andrew's Church, Bridgeport, followed by interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull with full military honors. Calling hours will take place on Friday December 6, 2013 from 4 to 7pm in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St. Bridgeport.
