Genevieve (Penny) Blanche Gasoriek Bridges, age 90, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Capt. William S. Bridges, Ret. U.S.A.F. passed away on December 22, 2013 in her home. Mrs. Bridges, a WW II Veteran of the U.S. Navy was born in Warren, Massachusetts to the late Andrew and Jennie (Mega) Gasoriek and had been a long time area resident. She graduated from Commercial High School in New Haven in 1941, and then served her country in the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) from 1942-1945, based in Washington DC. Genevieve worked for Southern New England Telephone as an operator, before becoming a stay at home mother. Later in life she returned to work as a bookkeeper for Wiggin and Dana Law Firm in New Haven until her retirement. Genevieve's greatest joy was her family, she loved her time spent with them, especially helping to care for her beloved grandchildren. She loved politics and spent many hours watching political talk shows, and debating her views with her son-in law Fred. Genevieve also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and was a wonderful cook, and accomplished seamstress. Survivors include her beloved daughter Gale Bridges Caruso and her husband Frederick A. Caruso Jr., her cherished grandsons Blake S. Caruso and Tyler F. Caruso, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was pre-deceased by her brothers, John and Stanley Gasoriek, and sisters, Nellie Cichon, Mary Paquin, Clara Pompilli, Sophie Ashbrook, and Loretta Labrot. Genevieve's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her friend and caregiver Elizabeth, and her friends at Constellation Hospice. Funeral services will take place on Friday, December 27th at 9:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford, and at 10 a.m. in St. Mark's Church Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations in Genevieve's memory to Constellation Hospice 240 Indian River Rd.
