Russell, Sr., Howard Eugene
Howard Eugene Russell, Sr., age 86, of Shelton entered into rest on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the CT Hospice with his loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of 65 years to Frances Eugenia Weik Russell. Mr. Russell was born in Shelton, on August 6, 1927 son of the late Isaac Benjamin Russell and Mary Ann Loughlin Russell and was a long time Shelton resident. He established Russell Linen Service in 1944 and was the owner and operator for 64 years until his retirement. Mr. Russell was also the former owner of the Suburban News.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Russell was a Past President and a 60 year member of the Derby Shelton Rotary Club, was a Past President and lifetime board Member of the Lower Naugatuck Valley Boys and Girls Club, a Past Master, 60 year Brother and 32 degree Mason of the Washington Lodge #19, AF & AM Masonic Lodge in Monroe. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, the Royal Arch Masons of CT, Pyramid Shriners No. 9 of Milford, the Hamilton Commandery No. 5 and the American Legion, Sutter-Terlizzi Post 16 in Shelton. Mr. Russell is the beloved father of Mary R. Webber and her husband Ross of Sequim, WA and Susan R. Merrill and her husband Jeffrey of Shelton and the late Howard E. Russell, Jr. He is the father-in-law of Helen Russell and brother of Janet Planten. He is the cherished grandfather of Jason Russell, Howie Russell III, Michelle, Laura and Courtney Webber and Kimberly and Andrew Merrill and adoring great grandfather of Owen, Nora and Maia, he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Russell is predeceased by his brothers, Francis, G. Alton, Charles Russell and Robert Russell, Sr.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. On Wednesday, friends are invited to his funeral service at 12 PM (Noon). in the funeral home. His burial with military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Oxford. His family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Rotary Scholarship Foundation, P.O.
