James V. Tartaro, age 92 of Westport, formerly of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Nancy A. Tartaro, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the CT Hospice in Branford. Born in Bristol, the son of the late Joseph and Nancy Tartaro, he had been a Bridgeport resident for most of his life prior to moving to Westport nine years ago. A graduate of Warren Harding High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II onboard the USS Pocomoke in the Pacific. Mr. Tartaro was a retired machinist for the Remington Arms Company. He was a life member and Past Commander of American Legion Post 74 and a life member of VFW Post 9427. Mr. Tartaro was a Past President and member of the DuPont-Remington Pensioneers Club, a member of the Royal Arcum and a long-time parishioner of Holy Rosary Church where he served as an usher. Survivors in addition to his wife Nancy include three beloved daughters, Nancy McMorrow and her husband Stanley of Norton, MA, Anita Petriello of Phoenix, AZ and Loretta Sproul of Punta Gorda, FL; a brother, John Tartaro of Palm Coast, FL; five step-children, six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Pat Hull and her husband Robert of Fairfield and Anne Tartaro of Monroe; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Evelyn Tartaro; five brothers and sisters, Mary Tartaro, Dominick, Frederick, Joseph Tartaro and Rose Lapiccirella. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 11, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Road, Fairfield with the Rev. Guido Montanaro officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery of Easton. Friends may call Sunday from 3-6 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
