John Bashar, 90 years old, of Shelton, CT, lost his battle with cancer on Monday October 21, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Bridgeport, CT and resided here for most of his life until he retired to Ocala, FL where he enjoyed the Florida life for 23 years. John and his wife recently relocated to Shelton, CT. He retired after 32 years of dedicated service as a payroll supervisor of the United States Post Office. John was a US Army Veteran of WWII where he served in North Africa, France and Germany as an artillery crewman. He received special recognition from France for his service during the war. He was a member of St. John's #8, Lafayette Consistory and Pyramid Temple. John was an avid golfer with two Hole-In-One's and shot his age at 86 years old, and was a life-long New York Yankee fan. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Mary (Rabik) Bashar, brothers Michael, Peter and George Bashar, sisters Margaret and Anna Bashar and his son Michael Thomas Bashar of Southbury, CT. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years Anna Mati Bashar, son Attorney John Peter Bashar of Shelton, CT, a special daughter-in-law Janet Conti (Pat) of Southbury and five grandchildren, Christopher Bashar of San Francisco, CA, Douglas Bashar (Colleen) of Raleigh, NC, Darcy Epstein (Justin) of Shelton, CT, Michael Bashar (Amber) of Seymour, CT, and Jonathan Bashar of Southbury, CT, one loving great-grandson Korbin Bashar, his sisters Helen Sadlon (Walter) and Irene Panuzak (Francis) and several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, October 24th at 9:15am in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10:00 in the Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist Mill Hill Avenue Bridgeport for a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Panachida will be at 7:00 PM.
